We publish our starting prices because nobody likes finding out the number after the technician is already in the driveway. Here is what a spring job actually costs, and the specific things that move it up.

Both torsion springs replaced. Most two-car doors run a pair, and we recommend replacing them together.
Springs are rated in cycles, not years, and a pair installed on the same day wears at the same rate. When one breaks the other is usually within months of going too. Replacing a single spring on a two-spring door means paying a second service call shortly after, and running an unbalanced door in the meantime puts the whole load on one spring and on the opener. If your door has two springs we will quote two, and we will tell you plainly if we think one is genuinely fine.
Those starting prices cover a straightforward replacement. These are the things we find that add to it, and we will show you each one before we touch it.
The tube is the steel shaft the springs wind onto. A spring that lets go violently can score, bend or twist it. A bent tube will not hold the door level no matter how well the spring is wound, so it has to be replaced.
Cables take the load when a spring fails, and they often fray or snap in the same moment. Frayed cable is not something to leave on the door, so if we find it we replace both.
The drums are the grooved wheels at each end of the tube that the cables wind around. A cable that jumps its groove can chew up the drum, and a worn drum will keep throwing the cable off until it is replaced.
If the door came off its tracks when the spring broke, the panels, rollers and track all have to be checked and reset before anything else happens. That is real additional labor and sometimes additional parts.
Wayne Dalton TorqMaster systems hide the spring inside a sealed tube. Parts are hard to get, the design fails in a way that is not worth repeating, and the right fix is usually converting the door to a standard torsion spring setup. That is a bigger job than a spring swap and it is priced accordingly, but it leaves you with a system any garage door company can service.
